Has it ever happened to you that you expected a certain reaction to something you said? You asked your child to complete a task and expected it to be done in a certain way? You expected a friend to call and check on you when you weren’t feeling well? You expected your husband to know exactly what gift you wanted for your birthday? You expected that when you were angry at your daughter, she would apologize?
We tell ourselves a story about the situations in life, and we expect them to unfold exactly as we planned. If we don’t explain in words what we mean, what exactly we are asking for, how exactly we would like things to happen, we might end up disappointed...
Use words and your voice to explain clearly so the other person doesn’t have to guess.
The clearer and more precise we are in our requests from others, the less likely we are to be disappointed...
Communication – that’s what connects people! 💜
